Odysseus Journey 7 day cruises
The elders called this triangular shaped island the “Trident Island”, the 2 miles wide strait of Messina separates it from mainland Calabria. Odysseus went through two epic adventures there, Charybde and Scylla and the one with the ox of the Sun god. And maybe there was a third adventure taking place in Sicily, the one of the Cyclops on a small island nearby the Etna.

Day 2 – Palermo

The poet Pindare called it the most beautiful mortal city. About 10 temples dating from the fifth century BC have been built on site which makes it the most remarkable site in terms of Doric culture. All the temples have an exceptional view dominating the sea.
- At lunch time a BBQ will be held on site.
- Cocktails on board followed by Captains gala dinner. Tonight’s menu is based on local specialties and truffles.
- Yacht moves during the night nearby Piazza Armerina.
Day 4 – Piazza Armerina/Villa Casale
- A day of leisure, water sport, Sauna, Steam room, beauty treatment, movies and games; it all awaits you in the beautiful surrounding of the yacht.
- Late afternoon we will drive to the villa Casale. Entirely restored in 1954, this luxurious Roman villa was originally built in the 3rd century AD at the foot of a hill called Monte Mangore. In the daedal of rooms, the mysterious owner (nobody knew who he was, but the name of the emperor Maximilian has been often mentioned) had 45000 square ft of mosaic been executed by North African artists. The most impressive mosaics are the one of the “Corridor of hunt” which describes this hunt over a parameter of 4000 square ft and is 60 yards long. You can recognize soldiers capturing elephants as well as gazelles and other felines of Africa before embarking them on a vessel and presenting them as a present to a Roman dignitary. After cocktails on site we will have dinner in the compound of the villa and a local chorus will entertain us with classical arias.
Day 5 – Taormina
- In the morning we will visit the Greek theatre of Taormina from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Etna volcano. Shortly after lunch a guided tour of town will be organized, the very same town where such writers as Goethe and Maupassant celebrated the beauty of the area, way before such families as the Krupps and Rothschilds made it a haven for the wealthy of this world.
- In the early evening a representation of a Greek tragedy will be given to you in the very same theatre you visited in the morning. Be ready for a unique experience that is given to very few.
Day 6 - Taormina – Mount Etna
- No visit of Sicily should be complete without a visit to the highest and still active volcano of Europe. Today we will take a helicopter tour of the volcano, shortly after landing and for the physically active an ascension of the volcano together with a guide will be offered to you, strong sensations guaranteed.
